Local businesses John MacIver & sons Ltd and HebDrone have recently become asset providers for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service.
The Community Asset Register (CAR) is a database, held and managed by the Scottish Fire & Rescue service, of volunteers with valuable tools or skills which would be beneficial in the event of an emergency in their local area. Assets may include, but not be limited to, boats, life jackets, 4x4s, HIAB lorries, VHF radios, chainsaws, all-terrain vehicles etc.
The service is delighted to welcome both John MacIver & Sons Ltd and HebDrone as asset providers here in Lewis and Harris. Both local family businesses have volunteered their assets to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue service when required. This will provide our local On-call Community Fire Stations with an increased range of options to help conclude emergency incidents quickly and safely.
The Community Asset Register was recently used at a significant moorland fire in the Achmore area of Lewis, whereby an argocat was called upon to help transport equipment across difficult ground only accessible via specialist vehicle or foot.
Feedback from the mobilised asset, provided by HebDrone, confirmed the process had been smooth, with great communications from the call to request their attendance, right through to being advised that the incident was drawing to a conclusion. They stated, “the people on the ground were really friendly, very professional, and made us feel welcome.”
