A free course on conducting family and local history research will take place on July 5 at Comunn Eachdraidh Nis.

The hour-long course, entitled ‘An introduction to historical research’, is being led by doctoral researcher Juliette Desportes and organised by Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn in partnership with the historical society.

The aim is to give those intrigued by family and local history the tools they need to dig into the past.

Attendees will receive a brief introduction to useful resources, learn how to access archives, search catalogues, and read and use sources. Two workshop sessions are planned, starting at 3 pm and 7 pm.

No prior knowledge is required, but you must book your place at bookwhen.com/uogevents or call 01851 810377.

Course leader Juliette Desportes is a third-year PhD student at the University of Glasgow.

She is currently undertaking a three-month internship with Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn to research the history of the Galson Estate and the lead-up to the 1923 resettlement of the townships.
