Half a century of Eriskay Pony conservation is being recognised later this month with two days of events in Eriskay Hall.
The big birthday celebration on September 24 and 25 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of Comann Each Nan Eilean - The Eriskay Pony Society.
The celebrations get underway on Saturday September 24 with a cèilidh dance and finger buffet, with entertainment by the Islands Cèilidh Band.
On September 25, there is a coffee afternoon from noon with struthan and baking and an archival exhibition by the island’s Comann Eachdraidh featuring the collections of Werner Kissling and Margaret Fay Shaw.
Throughout the afternoon, there is also a talk on the Michaelmas Traditions by Sabhal Mòr Ostaig-based historian Domhnall Uilleam Stiùbhart, from Back; a slideshow on the Eriskay pony by DJ Macinnes; and a plàda workshop where you learn to weave a paddlesack pad from rope.
The afternoon is rounded off by a panel discussion on the heritage and future of the Eriskay Pony.
