Twelve-year-old Marsaili Macaulay from Benbecula has clinched a double gold on her debut at the Scottish Disability Sport National Championships in Grangemouth.

The event was her first ever junior national swimming championship event.

And not only did she win big, Marsaili became the first Western Isles swimmer to compete in the national championships.

In total, her haul was two golds and a bronze.

She collected golds in the female 25m Freestyle and 25m Backstroke, and added a bronze medal in the 25m breaststroke.

Marsaili, pictured with her freestyle gold medal, is now looking forward to getting back in the pool to refine her stroke technique, endurance and ultimately her times.

Marsaili was supported throughout the event by experienced Team Orkney Coach Helen Rothnie.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Sport & Health team are working with Scottish Disability Sport, Scottish Swimming and Swim Western Isles coaches to put together a programme of support for Marsaili.
