Search and rescue teams from Lewis and Harris were called out late on Tuesday afternoon (22 November) to a report that a fisherman was thought missing.

The man had set out alone from Kershader in South Lochs to lift creels in Loch Erisort and was reported overdue in returning, and out of sight, by a family member as the light failed.

Stornoway coastguard operations centre took the call for help at 4.57pm and tasked Coastguard helicopter R948, Stornoway RNLI lifeboat and coastguard rescue teams from Stornoway, Miavaig, Breasclete and Harris to the scene.

The man returned to Kershader under his own power, safe and well, at 5.34pm and all teams were stood down, with the incident closed at 6pm.

The alert was classed as a false alarm with good intent and a positive outcome.
