From the moment Peat & Diesel announced a free pre-Christmas concert at the Eastgate Centre in Inverness, it was inevitable that there was going to be something of a major sensation.

But the scenes yesterday lunchtime (Sunday 4 December) outdid even those expectations, with fans streaming into the highland capital to rev up for Christmas with the coves from Stornoway.

It was the last performance of 2022 for Innes, Boydie and Uilly, the band heading home for a well-earned break ahead of their dates in England from February.

Luckily for the Eastgate Centre’s security arrangements, there was sunshine and the chance to perform outdoors in Falcon Square, allowing fans of all ages to fill every square inch of pavement.

As well as appreciating the seasonal celebration, fan comments after the show gave away just how far people are prepared to travel in the name of Peatlemania.

Travelling from Aberdeen, Glasgow, the borders, Orkney and Skye, many brought youngsters along with them and all described the daytime gig as ‘brilliant’, ‘great craic’, ‘an epic sesh’ and ‘well worth the drive.’

The music was backed by a long session of autograph-signing at the Eastgate Centre’s pop-up shop, with collections for the band’s chosen charities Mikeysline and MFR Cash for Kids being taken through the crowd.

Christmas merchandise made especially for the pop-up shop yesterday is now available online at – but not for long.

The pictures show the scene in Falcon Square yesterday, Uilly, Innes and Boydie with their merchandise supporters at the pop-up shop and a young fan’s delight as she gets her new t-shirt signed.
