With a day left until the luxury holiday draw, Eriskay’s online fundraiser for Ionad Eilean na h-Òige has more than doubled its original target.
At the time of writing today (Tuesday, January 24), the crowdfunder’s 197 supporters had raised £4,285, more than twice the £2,000 target.
The draw for a week’s accommodation on the island’s self-catering villa, Conan Mara, takes place tomorrow (Wednesday, January 25).
The JustGiving appeal for refurbishing the former Eriskay School into a community hub was launched in November after holiday operators Michael and Tara Mackinnon donated a week’s accommodation worth over £1000.
Their four-bedroom villa sleeps up to seven people and is located in the heart of Eriskay.
Renovation work of the former school is now well underway thanks to wide-ranging fundraising efforts by the Eriskay Historical Society. The school has been central to the island community for over a century.
As well as being a base for the historical society and the Eriskay Pony Society, Ionad Eilean na h-Òige will act as a visitor centre and incorporate a range of community facilities.
