Artisan producers from throughout the Western Isles were front and centre at a recent showcase event by Scotland House in London in celebration of Rabbie Burns.
The Burns Night event highlighted some of the best Scotland has to offer from its larder of delicious food and drink produce, including produce from the length of the Islands, including Wild & Free Salami from Hebridean Charcuterie (https://hebrideancharcuterie.co.uk/), Trout Hebrides (https://www.trouthebrides.com/), Salar Hebridean Smokehouse (https://www.salarsmokehouse.co.uk/), MustHeb (https://www.hebrideanmustard.com/), Stag Bakeries (https://stagbakeries.co.uk/) and Hebridean Kitchen (https://hebrideankitchen.com/).
Talking about the success of the night, owners of Hebridean Charcuterie, Brian and Melinda Whitington said they were grateful to be offered the opportunity by Scotland House to showcase Islands’ produce at the event.
“We met many lovely people, found some very useful connections to develop Island businesses, and even persuaded a few folks to look at visiting our beautiful Islands in the near future to secure potential fresh business opportunities,” said Melinda.
“We are glad to take this initial step to promote a ‘Taste Outer Hebrides’ selection to the rest of the UK,” added Brian: “And we look forward to continued collaboration with other producers from across the Outer Hebrides to ensure we are doing all that we can to wake up the UK’s tastebuds to the fabulous food and drink on offer from this special corner of Scotland.”
The Outer Hebrides’ cornucopia of goodies certainly went down a storm with the guests at Scotland House, located on the Thames embankment and established in 2017, to facilitate trade, investment and collaboration opportunities for Scottish producers and organisations looking to expand their horizons.
John Webster, Head of Scotland House, said: “It was great to welcome friends of Scotland House London old and new to celebrate the everlasting memory of Rabbie Burns. It was a very special evening where we showcased some fantastic artisan producers from the Outer Hebrides.
“Our thanks go to our partners who contributed to this fantastic evening.”
