A campaign to crack down on dog fouling has been launched by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
The Comhairle’s Consumer and Environmental Services team has prompted the campaign due to the spiralling volume of dog fouling complaints.
Over the next few weeks, patrols will be conducted in various areas, with offenders risking an £80 fine if they fail to pick up after their dog.
Says the Comhairle: “Irresponsible dog owners are being reminded of the risks to health associated with dog fouling. Dog faeces can contain campylobacter, salmonella and other potentially harmful organisms, which contaminate wounds or broken skin, as well as causing other serious illnesses.”
