Eagle-eyed readers have pointed out new signs on the former Lewis Street premises of Buildbase, once known – and still remembered – as builders' merchant Bain & Morrison.
Buildbase was part of the Grafton GMGB businesses, which were all bought by Welsh firm Huws Gray Ltd in 2021, and name-change has been on its way across the branch network since then.
The Buildbase branches have been rebranded to Huws Gray Buildbase.
Huws Gray was established with a single branch on Anglesey/Ynys Môn in 1990 and has since grown to become the largest independent builders' merchant in the UK, with 248 branches nationwide.
Over the years they have prioritised good customer service, delivered by helpful, knowledgeable teams in well-stocked branches.
Huws Gray had no presence in Scotland until their acquisition of Buildbase, and now have 17 branches, including not just Stornoway, but branches in other island locations in Orkney, Shetland and Islay.
Stornoway Branch Manager Iain Macaskill said "There have already been some expansions in our usual product range and, over time, we expect to see more stock changes.
“Essentially, we are still the same familiar team, serving our local Stornoway community, with the great service they have become accustomed to – and a little bit more product in stock!"
