Replace roof tiles

Planning consent is being sought to remove the non-original roof tiles at the Old Manse, Rushgarry.

Applicants Casey Macintyre and Ashleigh Forster are seeking permission to replace the existing tiles with natural slate. The work also incorporates roof ventilation, removing the non-original roof lights and reinstating the skews.

The former manse is currently semi-derelict but is now to be made wind and rain tight.

The design statement submitted by architect Ruairidh Moir of BARD states: “We propose to remove the existing non-original roof tiles containing asbestos and replace them with natural slates (Ballachulish) which are in keeping with the original Telford design and the likely original roof covering. In the process of removing the roof tiles, the two non-original roof lights on the east elevation will also be removed at the same time and sarked and slated over.”

It is also proposed to insulate the roof and loft space at the same time.

The design statement adds: “These proposed works will help preserve the manse and prevent further deterioration of the structure. It will remove some non-original features such as the tiles and roof light, and it will reinstate some features that have been lost such as the skews on the west facade to make this building more in keeping with the original design and vision of Telford.”
