Grants of up to £3,000 are available for island residents who get rid of their older bangers and switch to active or shared travel options.
The mobility and scrappage fund is an Energy Savings Trust initiative to get older vehicles off the road and more people into other less polluting forms of travel.
The scheme is being publicised by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar but is run by the Energy Savings Trust, making grants available to eligible applicants.
The grant comes in tranches, a grant of £2,000 upon the disposal of a vehicle at a SEPA-authorised facility and the provision of a verifiable Certificate of Destruction.
And a further grant of up to £1,000 (based on two adults applying for £500) can be claimed towards the cost of shared or active travel.
