The first Western Isles Lifestyle Lottery draw will take place this Saturday (August 19th).

Following a successful Fireworks Launch last Saturday at Tong Motor Show & Fun Day, the first three Cash Prize winners of the Western Isles Lifestyle Lottery will be announced on the Lottery website moments after the 1st Draw this Saturday at 8pm.

The winner of the Lottery’s first Bolt-on Prize of a £250 Holiday Voucher, generously donated by Hebrides Travel, will also be announced.

Further weekly draws will take place every Saturday night at 8pm throughout the year with more Bolt-on Prizes already in the pipeline. There will also be an announcement on Isles FM. However, full names will only be divulged with the winner’s permission.

Set up by the Western Isles Community Society (WICS), the Lottery offers the chance to win 20% of all weekly ticket sales and at the same time help to improve the Lifestyle of the Western Isles, benefiting communities from the Butt to Barra.

A spokesperson for WICS said: “Simply - the more supporters who buy tickets, the higher both the Prize Pot and the Community Fund Pots rise.  The weekly Prize Pot currently stands at £167 – over a year, that’s already a total of £8,684 in Prize Money.

“Already, prior to the first Draw, public support for the Lottery has raised a guaranteed £2,493 for Community benefit. If the current level of support continues, this equates to raising a total of £29,527 over the first year.

"Looking ahead, which emphasises the benefits of public support, if the ultimate target of 5000 weekly tickets is achieved, this returns an incredible £156,000 to the Islands from Butt to Barra.

"Tickets cost just £1 with 60p from each ticket going directly to the area in which the ticket was purchased, using a postcode system. If you buy a ticket in say, Ness & Westside area – 60p returns to that Area. You can check ‘Prizes’ under the Menu bar when you buy a ticket to see your Area displayed.

“We wish to thank everybody who has so far supported the Lottery and wish everyone the best of luck for the first Draw this Saturday.

"WICS ask that ticket holders please check their emails following the Draw and phone in to Isles FM on 01851 703333 to let them know of their success. It would be great if winners could also let us know via our Facebook Page – Western Isles Community Society (LINK)"

Six long established Community Groups have agreed to manage the funds in each area:

Stornoway Amenity Trust - Area 1 (Broadbay)
Westside Football & Recreation Association - Area 2 (Ness & Westside)
Muaitheabhal Trust & Friends - Area 3 (Uig/Lochs/Breasclete)
Harris Voluntary Action - Area 4 (Isle of Harris)
Uist Council of Voluntary Organisations - Area 5 (Isle of Uist)
Barra & Vatersay Community Ltd - Area 6 (Isle of Barra)

The Groups will be seeking representation from across their respective areas to ensure the funds are used for what the public feel is most beneficial to their own areas.
