Police were active in Stornoway over the busy pre-Christmas weekend, and a number of people were charged with offences.
At 5.30pm on Friday (December 21st) police were called to Perceval Road in the town, where a 19-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with breach of the peace, vandalism, police assault and possession of a class B drug and was kept in custody until sober. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
A 17-year-old man was stopped while driving on South Beach Street at 10.35pm on Friday and was issued with a fixed penalty for driving while the windscreen of his vehicle was obscured. Police urge people to pay attention to visibility when driving and to make sure windscreens are clear before driving off.
At 3.10am on Sunday (December 23rd) police were called to South Beach Street, where a 25-year-old man was shouting, swearing and acting aggressively to passers-by. He was arrested and kept in custody until sober and was then issued with a recorded police warning before release. And there’s an appeal for information after the window of a vehicle was broken in Aird Uig, some time between 7pm and 9pm on Thursday 20th December. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number, 101.
