The Royal Mail has won praise for its service quality from Stornoway after it even defied the impact of last week's storms.

Mrs C. A. Hardy of 43 Knock, Point, contacted us to say: "How great is our Royal Mail.

"I posted a birthday card to my sister who lives in North Yorkshire, at a post box in Swordale, on Friday 22nd March at approximately 11am and she received it on Saturday 23rd March at about 10am, unbelievable.

"Even more so as the Braighe was shut until about mid-morning on the 22nd so I didn't think it would get off the island until Saturday at the earliest.

"I often send mail to Yorkshire and it is usually delivered within a couple of days, which is great service for under a £, but I thought to deliver mail that distance in under 24 hours deserved some recognition.

"Thank you to Stornoway sorting office, it seems you are all brilliant at your job."

At we welcome such Island success stories, there's far too much gloom about!
