Storm winds blew in the New Year, and the Isle of Harris is still feeling the effects today (Thursday January 2nd) as ferries face disruption.
The Sound of Harris service (Berneray to Leverburgh) is cancelled for the day and the Uig-Tarbert service is subject to disruption throughout the day, with delays and cancellations possible at short notice.
South-westerly winds are forecast to continue strong until around 5pm today, when they will become north-westerly but continue strong. A further period of high west winds is expected tomorrow afternoon.
A longer-term forecast is for gales from Sunday onwards, with the Met Office predicting gusts up to 60mph for Monday and Tuesday.
