CalMac’s ferry MV Isle of Lewis is heading for Castlebay this morning (Monday April 6) to take up a late run for Oban, after a weekend sheltering in Stornoway harbour.
The veteran ferry was sent to shelter in her old home port because of the strong south-easterly wind, which made it impossible for her to berth in Castlebay ahead of the Monday morning service.
A CalMac spokesman said: “There would have been difficulty keeping her alongside the pier without keeping her engines and bow thrusters on all night, which would have meant nobody getting any sleep. The preferred berth at Oban was not available
so Stornoway was the next choice.”
The Isle of Lewis arrived in Stornoway at tea-time on Saturday and left at 6am this morning. Because she was out of position, today’s service from Castlebay has been delayed to 11.45am, arriving at Oban at 4.30pm.
