The Isles Lottery Team are celebrating today (November 21), having reached their first major milestone of raising £10,000 for community projects across the Western Isles - just three months after the Lottery was launched.

A spokesperson for Western Isles Lifestyle Lottery said: “The Lottery is over 25% of the way to reaching the long term target. We are delighted that a steady support of 1350 weekly tickets, the bulk of which are paid by Direct Debit, can raise so much.”

Community Groups from the Butt to Barra have received their shares of the £7,689 already distributed and are set to receive around £3,500 at the end of this month, varying with the level of support from each area.

In addition, £4,300 has been won in cash prizes by players across the Western Isles and beyond.

The Festive Bolt-On Prize of a two-night stay in a Luxury Apartment in Lews Castle, including a luxurious Welcome Hamper, has been donated by Natural Retreats with £200 spending money donated by W J MacDonald, Butchers. advertises each local company, giving direct links to their own website page, in an effort to benefit the local economy. Every Lottery ticket purchase between now and 23rd December receives automatic entry into the separate Luxury Prize Draw.

The first community event supported by the Lottery will be the Stornoway Christmas Lights Switch-on on December 8th.

As the main sponsors, the Lottery worked in partnership with Stornoway Amenity Trust and ACES (electrical services) to plan the Christmas Lights Display in the town centre. Projects in Harris and Barra will also ensure a bright festive season in those communities.

If the long term target of 5000 weekly tickets is met, this would mean a Weekly Prize Pot of £1,000 with £3,000 each week being returned to the Community. That adds up to a lot of funding, for a lot of improvements. Even if this current level is maintained, over £40,000 over the first year of operation will be raised for the Islands.
