An iconic 1937 movie loosely based on the evacuation of St Kilda is to get a fresh screening at Taigh Chearsabhagh next week.
The Edge of the World was the breakout movie of influential movie maker Michael Powell, filmed on Foula in Shetland as a stand-in for St Kilda. You can see the movie trailer here.
The movie features John Laurie, who later became best known for his role as Barra-born Private James Frazer in Dad’s Army.
Also showing will be the sequel, Return to the Edge of the World.
The Saturday, November 25 screening will be rounded off by his 1978 film ‘Return to St Kilda, where Powell and his crew return to Foula and recall their escapades.
Curtain-up is at 7 pm, with entry by pay what you decide: £10 / £8 / £6 / £3.
