Around 20 ‘new’ recordings of the late Donald MacDonald (Dòmhnall Ruairidh Dhuibh) from Uiskevagh in Benbecula have been uploaded to Tobar an Dualchais ~ Kist o Riches, the Scottish sound archive.

Donald was born in 1910 and served in World War II. After the war ended, he worked on MV Lochmor, a passenger and cargo vessel that served as a mail steamer to the Outer Hebrides from 1930 to 1964.

Donald enjoyed working alongside Donald Joseph MacKinnon (An Eòsag) from Barra, who was a mate on the vessel then.

Donald composed poetry, and in a recording from 1968, he sang a song in praise of the MV Lochmor and the crew who worked on it. Morag MacLeod of the School of Scottish Studies recorded it.
