For everyone, it’s a very different year at the Calanais Visitor Centre this year. The centre is closed but the visitors are still going to come!
In preparation for this situation, Calanais have invested in temporary facilities to give some hospitality to visitors.
Alongside the basics of temporary toilets, a new fully-fitted food trailer has been purchased. Intermedia Services (Stornoway) Ltd – which also publishes welovestornoway.com – recently did an excellent job of ‘wrapping’ the trailer so that it will look good on site.
“While we are considering operating the food wagon ourselves, we would like to offer the opportunity to someone out there who might be interested in trying out their own business and operating the food trailer on a concession basis” says Ian Fordham who chairs Urras nan Tursachan,.
As the Calanais Visitor Centre is the most popular visitor attraction in the Outer Hebrides, this is a business opportunity in a unique location with an amazing customer base and minimal capital investment.
Plus, it’s the first year of the operation of the new deep-water port in Stornoway, and there are already around 400 coaches booked in for the 2024 season.
Calanais are inviting interest from both budding entrepreneurs and established businesses. Anyone interested is asked to email
