Lochboisdale has been named the third wettest place in the UK, with a monthly average of 100 millimetres of rain.

New research to uncover the 20 rainiest coastal destinations in the UK ranked Lochboisdale and three other Scottish locations in the top four.

Weather data analysis from the Met Office between 1991 and 2020 has crowned Aultbea in the Highlands as the UK’s rain hotspot. The fishing village sees an average of 121 millimetres of rainfall per month. But it is also damp 209 days of the year, with more than 1 millimetre of rainfall.

Nudging Lochboisdale into third place is Tiree in the Inner Hebrides, which cops a monthly average rainfall of 106 millimetres.

The fourth rainiest locality is Helensburgh.

OnePoll, Sykes Holiday Cottages and former BBC weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans compiled the rain league.
