Scottish Labour party campaigners in the islands have scored their first win – long before a single vote is cast in any General Election.

The party’s campaigners have been recognised for their efforts to win Na h-Eileanan an Iar constituency, receiving a Keir Hardie award for their membership drive during the Scottish Labour conference in Glasgow last week.

Mike MacLeod, the CLP secretary from Stornoway, and party treasurer Ada Campbell (pictured) picked up the prize at the annual gathering.

Torcuil Crichton, Labour’s candidate for the islands, said the commitment of Labour members was spearheading his campaign to win the seat.

He said: “Successful campaigns rely on the sheer hard work of dedicated members and I am lucky to have a battle-ready team going into this year’s general election.”

Announcing the award, Scottish Labour organiser Keiran O’Neill said: “Despite being a constituency the length of the distance between Sheffield and London, Western Isles CLP has run an incredibly strong and localised campaign.

“By investing in technology to bring members together, they mobilised campaigners and volunteers for the election.”
