The support group Safe Families Western Isles is set for a Uist service launch on Tuesday 5 March at An Caladh in Balivanich.

Safe Families Western Isles would also like to extend the invitation to anyone in Barra to attend the Uist launch, in the hope of making contact to work towards a future launch in Barra. If you’re not able to attend on the day, please contact them via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.of by phone to 01851 827308.

Safe Families Western Isles have been actively supporting families with children ages 3-15 in Lewis and Harris for over a year and have seen tremendous outcomes.

Much of the credit for these outcomes goes to their excellent volunteers who journey with families towards a better and brighter future, the group says.

 Among typical reactions:

  • “Everything has changed”
  • “Because of the support, I have been more willing to do things with [son]".
  • “I want her [volunteer] but no longer need her”.

The quotes above have been provided by families that have received Safe Families Western Isles support.  Their words encapsulate the goal of Safe Families and is at the very heart of what they do; they work and serve to support families and assure and remind them that they are not alone, that they deserve to belong, and they can flourish with a little help from others.

Safe Families Western Isles say they are determined to be true to their name, which is why they are enlarging their footprint by going to Uist.

The launch will have two main focuses. First, in the afternoon a multi-agency partnership event at which all statutory bodies and partner agencies are welcome to attend to be informed of the support SFWI offers.

Then in the evening, a community information sharing event for potential volunteers, and any parents or professionals who would be interested in benefiting from their service.

The Safe Families Western Isles team would be delighted to meet with any in the Uists who have a heart to support vulnerable families at times of challenge or change. The SFWI team would appreciate partner agencies to attend, not just to learn about Safe Families, but so SFWI are informed of existing services operating in the Uists that they can signpost or refer people to.

With this, the Safe Families Western Isles Team would be delighted with meet with any who would be interested in becoming a volunteer so that they can support families in their own community.

As they further plan and prepare for the Uist launch events, Safe Families Western Isles team would like to thank staff from CNeS, NHS Western Isles, Uist agencies and the wider community in Uist for their interest and support thus far.

For any others who are interested in being present for either part of the launch day, please get in touch with SFWI at this This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone 01851 827308.
