A Uist woman whose family has been affected by cancer is in training to raise funds for Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative - Uist and Barra.

Yvonne Morrison, a mother of two, plans to run the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow in October.

But she admits: “I am training as much as I can even whilst going through my own medical issues. I am certainly no runner, and this is something that I am training from scratch for.”

Via her Crowdfunder appeal, she has already raised £371 and is on the way to meeting her third target amount of £400.

On the appeal page, Yvonne writes: “Cancer has touched so many people’s lives in 2023. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer (and fighting it); I am now being monitored, and friends are fighting breast cancer, as well as others in the community.

"I would love to ease some sort of burden for these people by raising as much money as I can for WICCI. I intend to do this by running in the Great Scottish Run 10K 2024 (October). This will be a huge challenge for me as I have never been a runner, but the time and effort I can put in is nothing compared to what others are experiencing.”
