The Western Isles have emerged as the tenth easiest place in the UK to book a driving test.

Huge backlogs across the UK are frustrating learner drivers’ attempts to ditch their L-plates, and months-long waits to secure a test date are not uncommon.

However, research by One Sure Insurance has scrutinised government data and found that 7 of the ten easiest locations to sit a driving test are in Scotland.

The top ten were arrived at by creating an index that factored in the number of provisional license holders in the area for every 1,000 full licence holders, the number of test centres per 10,000 provisional license holders in the area, the proportion of tests carried out per 1,000 provisional license holders and the proportion of tests cancelled per 1,000 provisional license holders.

These criteria were then weighted to determine your best chance of getting a speedy driving test date.

Scotland dominated the ranking, topped by Galashiels and Inverness in fourth place. Aberdeen and Perth took fifth and sixth place, while Kirkwall, Dumfries, and the Western Isles were placed eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.
