Comann Eachdraidh Eirisgeidh has issued an update on transforming the former Eriskay School into a community hub.

The first phase of the Ionad Eilean na h-Òige project, which is nearing completion, saw the internal walls stripped back to their original stone.

Some of the original V-lining, which could date back to the school’s construction in the 1870s, have been set aside for a later stage of the refurbishment.

New openings have been created, and a new building has been erected on the site of the former Room 1 classroom. Together, these three rooms will form the museum’s core space.

The remaining new windows will be fitted in the next couple of weeks, bringing the building another step closer to completion.

The team behind the innovative net zero/carbon neutral project added: “What a difference it has made since the recycled glass aggregate has been spread. The whole place looks so much tidier and you can start to visualise the end product.”
