Extensive damage has been caused at a church in Stornoway, after vandals targeted it during Easter weekend.

Stornoway Police are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed anything which might help with their investigations into the crime.

Windows were smashed at the back of Our Holy Redeemer Church on Scotland Street in Stornoway, causing what officers said was ‘extensive damage.’

The incident happened some time between the hours of 6.30pm on Friday (29 March) and 7.45am today, Saturday.

The church is in the midst of services celebrating Holy Week, with an Easter vigil scheduled for 8pm tonight and Easter Mass at 11am tomorrow.

Parish priest Canon William Maclean and members of the congregation are also due to travel to Oban Cathedral on Monday and Tuesday, to attend Wednesday’s Requiem Mass for former parish priest Fr Roddy Johnston, who passed away earlier this month.

Stornoway police are asking anyone with any information in relation to the vandalism to call Police Scotland on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime number CR/0113023/24.
