A Benbecula woman is in the United States for surgery, hoping she can become pain-free after 22 years.

Former ambulance technician Cathleen Macleod had complications after giving birth, which led to a mesh implant being fitted. However, like many women, the implant caused her many painful episodes.

After many unsuccessful removal operations in Scotland, she was left with much of the mesh implant still in place.

For the last five years, she has been looking for the best surgeon around the world to finish the job. She has now gained funding from the Scottish Government, and she and her husband are in Missouri to see world-renowned gynaecologist Dionysios Veronikis for the removal procedure.

After the operation, she and her husband will have to stay in a hotel near the hospital for two weeks as she recovers.

Before she left, she gave an interview to Iain Maciver, of Maciver Media.
