An appeal has been launched to raise funds for two North Lewis war memorials

The War Memorials in Cross and Borve are more than 20 years old. A detailed survey carried out recently by Craig Frew Building Conservation Ltd discovered both memorials require extensive remedial work. The cost of this work will be around £40,000.

Without urgent intervention the memorials will continue to deteriorate and could become a danger to the public, it is believed.

The North Lewis War Memorials Committee has been successful in raising money through its own fundraising efforts including raising over £1000 at a recent soup and pudding event.

The committee has also secured some grant funding towards the costs but some help is still needed to reach the full target.

A JustGiving page has been created to enable online donations.

If you would prefer to donate in person, please hand your donation to Donna or Anne at Comunn Eachdraidh Nis, say the organisers

If the full amount can be raised, work on the war memorials can commence in May.
