With their Hebridean Way fundraising trip coming to a close, Tony Bonning and Chief spent the day at Castlebay School yesterday (Thu, Mary 9).

The pair, raising funds for the 3Rs Horse Rescue Centre Charity, were an instant hit with the pupils. Tony, an author of two books on the Scottish water kelpie legend, enthralled the school pupils and staff with his intriguing storytelling.

After entertaining with a ukulele, the Castlebay kids turned the tables on Tony and entertained him with a piping recital, much to his delight.

After his visit, the school commented: “What a pleasure! We had a fantastic day welcoming both Tony and Chief to the school today [Thursday]. Fabulous storytelling across all ages, along with music and song. We wish Tony and his beautiful pony the very best as he continues his journey! Huge congratulations so far - impressive trip.”

His online appeal now stands at £7,473, plus the cash donations he has received on their long-distance hike from Stornoway.

Tony can be contacted via his Facebook page or Instagram account.
