Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust is offering a Scottish teenager a chance to join them on their research vessel, Silurian, to undertake monitoring work.

The free trip is open to Scottish residents aged 16 or 17 who are passionate about the environment and are up for adventure.

The live-aboard expedition runs from Sunday, August 4, to Saturday, August 10. It sets off from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

Comments the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust: “Over the past two decades, more than a thousand people have joined our research vessel Silurian. The live-aboard expeditions run from Silurian welcome people to explore the west coast of Scotland while contributing to conservation.”

During the research trip, the lucky teen will collect important data on whales, dolphins, porpoises, and basking sharks. The data will feed into a massive database held by the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, which is used by government agencies, policy makers, universities, and other researchers. The data is used to improve understanding of the different species in West Coast waters, the challenges they face, and how to better protect them.

The closing date for applications is Friday, June 14, at noon.
