A new survey for residents of the Western Isles has opened, asking people to share their experience of heating their homes and energy costs.

The survey is part of a project that will explore practical and affordable solutions to make island homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

The survey is being run as part of the Domestic Decarbonisation project, co-led by Tighean Innse Gall and Community Energy Scotland along with Community Land Outer Hebrides, Uist Beo, Hebridean Housing Partnership, BE-ST and Community Enterprise.

Running until 2028, the project will identify the unique challenges faced by households in the Outer Hebrides and develop tailored solutions suited to local housing types and conditions. Up to 18 homes will be trialling tailored energy efficiency solutions, with work scheduled for next year.

Kirsty Macleod of Tighean Innse Gal said: “We want to hear directly from people living in the Outer Hebrides about the challenges they face in keeping their homes warm, affordably. The survey findings will play an important role in ensuring the project delivers practical solutions that work for island communities.”

The survey is open until 12 October and can be accessed here.
