Tarbert will be in festive mood tomorrow (Saturday December 22nd) as Santa leads his parade through the village on his way to his grotto.

The annual Santa parade starts at 4pm at Tigh mo Sheannar and there’ll be a merry band of fantastical companions accompanying the great man, as he’s pulled around the streets on his sleigh by members of the volunteer Coastguard Rescue Teams.

Organisers encourage everyone to fall in behind Santa’s sleigh along with Batman, Spiderman, a crew of elves and a reindeer – there could even be a minion among the throng. Some volunteer fire fighters could even be recognisable in the crowd.

Santa will get down from his sleigh at the Isle of Harris Distillery and, once he settles down in his grotto, he will be giving out gifts and selection boxes to the children, with hot chocolate to follow, while grown-ups enjoy a tot of mulled wine or mulled gin.

As always the peat fire will be blazing and the Christmas tree brightly lit, for an atmosphere of seasonal good cheer. A donation of £2 is requested for the hot drinks, all money raised to go into the pot for next year’s celebrations.

And for anyone needing to do some last minute Christmas shopping the Handmade Harris Christmas Market will be in Tarbert Community Centre from 12-6pm  where there will also be the Street Food Cafe!
