Top piper Stuart Liddell is to do a recital in Stornoway this week.
This is part of a two-day visit which was organised by the Lewis and Harris Piping Society and funded in collaboration with the newly formed Lewis & Harris Youth Pipe Band (LHYPB) and the established Lewis Pipe Band (LPB).
Stuart will entertain the audience with a piping recital at 8pm on Friday 7th which will also feature performances from some of the island’s talented youth players. This event will now take place in the Garry Room of the Caladh Inn - not the eSgoil building.
Finlay Macleod of the Lewis & Harris Piping Society said: “We are very fortunate to have secured this visit from Stuart and look forward to what will be a fantastic couple of days and hope members of the public come along to what will be a top class evening”

"We hope Stuart can help us towards our up and coming events at the Dileab concert at the Sports Centre on the 14th of December where the Youth Pipe Band will be performing our own tribute. We also hope to encourage all youngsters to come along to learn and listen.”
Saturday morning sees Stuart working with the LPB who strive to improve year on year and Sandy Gomez, chairperson of both the LHYPB and LPB said: “Stuart Liddell is a champion of the Youth Pipe Band movement, proved by the phenomenal success of the Inveraray and District Pipe Band, and so it’s an absolute privilege to have him hold a workshop for the newly formed Lewis and Harris Youth Pipe Band where is advice will be invaluable.
"We’re looking forward to being able to tap into his skills and have him offer guidance to the up and coming Pipers we have throughout the Islands, and help us build the momentum of the work currently being done with the Youth Pipe Band. In addition, Stuart will be also working with the Lewis Pipe Band, helping them to improve and hone the sound as they practice towards their competitions in 2019”.
Stornoway North councillor Gordon Murray praised the group, saying: “Stuart Liddell is one of the best pipers in the world." Gordon added: "With piping of such a high standard coming to Stornoway, the Lewis and Harris Piping Society has done extremely well bringing world-class musicians to Stornoway. This promises to be a great night of music for all the family.”
