Na h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP Angus MacNeil and MSP Alasdair Allan have today commended the Western Isles team following on from their participation in the NatWest Island Games. The 2017 NatWest Island Games took place in Gotland, Sweden between the 24th and 30th of June.

The Western Isles team accumulated a total of 14 medals, ten of which were gold medals, and finished as the highest placed of all the Scottish island based communities in the final results table.

Alasdair Allan commented: “I was delighted to keep updated of the Western Isles team success at last week’s Island Games at Gotland. The team done themselves very proud, and accumulated a considerable medals tally, and finished as the highest ranked Scottish team.

“I wish all the participants the very best for the future, and I hope that their success inspires islanders young and old to stay active, and build upon our team’s appearance in Gotland. I will be writing to the Sport’s Minister to commend our team’s recent success.”

Angus MacNeil MP commented: “I applaud all the athletes who represented Team Western Isles at the NatWest Island Games and I warmly congratulate all the athletes who won medals – Fantastic achievement! ‘S math a rinn sibh!”
