This one-day participatory masterclass will include group brainstorms, storytelling exercises and the dissection of existing short films with unique behind the scenes insight from idea, through to funding and production, all the way to distribution.

We are hosting a Symposium featuring talented artists and professionals from across the creative sector from near and far. There will be something for everyone from jewellery to gaming and technology. Come along and learn from their success stories. Rounding off the day will be a discussion panel debating the pros and cons of island life, entitled ‘I’m an Islander, Get Me Out of Here!’

6pm:  Lily Asch - Real Talk
Real Talk is a social enterprise dedicated to mental health storytelling.  
We will collaborate with Las/Ignite during their festival to explore what experiences of mental illness look like in a young person but also how these experiences can be transformed to make a meaningful contribution to reducing stigma and empowering personal narratives. 

6:45pm:  Calum Tyler
Calum grew up and went to school in Uig on the Isle of Lewis.  As a member of Board not Bored and has volunteered his to help organise the Las/Ignite festival.  Now, he wants to share his story.

7pm:  Being Heather - 'Self love, Self-Care & Self-Compassion'
Heather Baillie, who runs her own business called Being Heather, offers spiritual coaching and holistic healing on the island through various disciplines including mindfulness, meditation, Reiki and Shamanism.

7:45pm:  Danni Gordon - The Chachi Power Project
Danni is a passionate and creative Body Positive Advocate who is here to remind every body that they are beautiful.  She created the  Chachi Power Project  in January 2017 on a mission to improve everyone’s body confidence through interactive workshops, talks, events and retreats.

Live Comedy from Marjolein Robertson

Marjolein Robertson claims to be Shetland’s only female comedian. One of the up and coming stars of the Scottish comedy scene Marjolein weaves through time with jokes, anecdotes and storytelling, intertwining her own life with a traditional Shetland folk tale.

Ignite Change Exhibition

12 - 27 Oct An Lanntair’s Gallery will host an exhibition of work created and curated by local young people entitled ‘Ignite Change’.

The pieces were submitted to Board not Bored for consideration and focus on the festival’s overall theme of ‘Change’. This theme was interpreted by the artists in any way they see fit and through any format or medium.

Artist Sandra Kennedy has been working with young people from Western Isles Foyer to create work for an exciting exhibition in An Lanntair's cafe/bar round room. 

Using Photography the group has been exploring themes of place & identity.  They have been experimenting with different ways of using photography & exploring techniques such as Polaroid image lifts & screen printing.
Between Islands
17 - 25 Oct
Our islands exchange programme has brought together six talented islands to produce work about their island homes; Lewis and Shetland.  An exhibition featuring Shetland textile students' work will be on display on the third floor during the festival and films made my Lewis students about their experiences in Shetland will be shown during the Art for Lunch events.

Artist Jonathan MacDonald is holding his first solo exhibition in the cafe/bar gallery.  His intricately-penned illustrations depict a beautiful and chaotic world of colour and form.

Open Mic Night

The Las! Ignite! Festival Youth Team has been hosting Open Mic Sessions once a fortnight all summer.  Now it's time to bring these fabulous young artists to perform on An Lanntair’s Cafe Bar Stage

Featuring Niamh Smith, musicians from Dual (a local folk group of young musicians from the Fèis) and others too.

The walls to our auditorium will be up so that while enjoying your lunch from our wonderful Cafe Bar you will be able to enjoy a feast for the eyes; a combination of film, music and art curated by our young people.
Gaming Day
22 Oct from 1pm with competition starting at 6pm!

Board not Bored’s gaming subgroup have organised a day which will be a celebration of Computer Gaming in all of its forms and across the whole building.
Gaming Demonstrations - No booking is required for this event.

Over the whole day there will be a nostalgic retro gaming display in An Lanntair’s project space featuring early games and consoles from the 80s and 90s!
Live Gaming Competition - Free but booking is essential.
Our gaming day rounds off with a live Gaming competition in the auditorium with gamers battling it out on the big screen.  The event is free for competitors and spectators alike and will include live commentary from our gaming experts.
