Over half of 12 to 25-year-olds who responded to a Young Islanders Network survey are worried or expect to be worried about housing.
Among the findings so far are that public sector housing is difficult to obtain, and private rents are now so expensive it is no longer an option. Some fear that the lack of well-paid jobs means they can never rent or buy a house in the islands.
However, the Young Islanders Network points out that the sample size is relatively small, with just 59 respondents so far. They are therefore urging more island young people to participate in the survey, which can be found at https://forms.office.com/e/FiQ4S1X3vc.
They add that the voices of island youth will contribute to discussions with local and national decision-makers on the issue of housing.
