Lews Castle College UHI's Gaelic Lecturer Anne Frater has been commissioned by the supermarket chain Lidl to write a poem about the Festive season.

"Tha mi air a bhith ag obair còmhla ri Lidl gus bàrdachd a chruthachadh mu dheidhinn na làithean eadar an Nollaig agus a’ Bhliadhn’ Ùr.  ’S e na ‘Daft Days’ a theirear riutha ann an Albais, agus bhathas a’ togail air dàn leis an t-ainm sin a chaidh a sgrìobhadh le Robert Fergusson.   Chaidh iarraidh ormsa mo thionndadh fhìn a chur air na làithean sin, ag innse mar a bhitear gan comharrachadh ’s na h-Eileanan an Iar, agus sin a th’ ann an ‘Là is Oidhche."

Anne said, "I've been working with Lidl to create a poem about the days between Christmas and New Year.

"Known as the ‘Daft Days’ in Scots, the commission was inspired by a poem of the same name by Robert Fergusson.  I was asked for my own take on those days, describing how they were celebrated in the Western Isles, and that’s how ‘Là is Oidhche’ (A Day and a night) came about."
