The Dr You collection aims to support people to take control of their health and well-being through books and information on a whole range of topics, from how to stop smoking to supporting those with dementia. Every branch library in the Western Isles has a collection, but if you can’t get to a library, the mobile library service can always visit you instead.
The three mobile libraries travel around Lewis, Harris and the Uists, visiting library users who are too far from a branch library, or unable to travel. While the mobile libraries stock a whole range of books and audio-books, library members can also select and request titles from the entire library collection.
Lists containing all the titles available in Dr You are available from the mobile library and you can request any title in the collection at no charge.
If you are not already a library member, it is free and easy to sign up. Simply contact us and we can arrange for a visit from one of the mobile libraries.
If you enjoy e-books, library members can also download a wide range of e-books – both fiction and non-fiction by top authors - from the library website. All you need is your library card number and pin. Our e-resources are available to you even when you are travelling, so you need never be without a book to read or listen to when you are out and about, even if you are in another country!
Titles from the library's e-audio collection, OneClickDigital. Available to download from the library website.
Our e-audio collection in particular, contains a number of useful books on a range of health topics, from overcoming a fear of flying, to helping your child feel positive about going to the dentist or to school. What could be easier than downloading a self-help book to your computer or MP3 player to listen to at your leisure?
With your library card, you can manage your library account online – search the catalogue, see what new books have arrived and request and renew items. Remember, it is free to become a member of the library and to borrow books and other resources. All you need to become a member of the library is to complete the membership form and show some proof of your address at your local or mobile library.
Get in touch if you would like a membership form, or to arrange a visit from the mobile library.
