A date was announced yesterday (Saturday January 12th)  for the first March for Scottish Independence to be held in the Western Isles, with a route and other details set to be publicised shortly.

The march and rally will be on Saturday 27th April in Stornoway and organisers promise it will be a family-friendly affair, with a ‘proper Hebridean Ceilidh’ in the evening after the main event.

Entertainment including bands, bouncy castle, food vans and stalls are promised during the daytime.

It’s being organised by Outer Hebrides for Independence and is now supported by a second social media group, the Western Isles YES hub, after some confusion about the organising groups.

Also launched yesterday was an online fundraising page, seeing to raise £10,000 to offset the costs of running the event.

Organisers said: “Due to our geographical location it costs alot of money to take bands up from the mainland when you include travel and accomodation. The funds will be used to cover all costs including equipment hire, merchandise, policing and various other things.”
